What is Seattle Children’s South Sound Cardiology?

Seattle Children’s South Sound Cardiology Clinics provide care for newborns, children and teens in the South Puget Sound region. We also see pregnant people whose developing baby may have a heart condition. The main office is in Tacoma. The doctors also see patients in Centralia, Federal Way, Olympia and Silverdale.

The heart doctors (cardiologists) in the South Sound Cardiology Clinics are part of Seattle Children’s Heart Center. The Heart Center team offers the full range of heart care, from prenatal consultation to heart surgery to heart care for young adults.

We believe that referring community providers and Seattle Children’s providers are partners in the care of South Sound youth.

Why choose Seattle Children’s South Sound Cardiology?

  • Local providers – All of our providers live and work in the South Sound area and are part of the Seattle Children’s Heart Center team. Our cardiologists see patients in clinic and also provide expert, in-person consultations at hospitals throughout the South Sound region, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Clear communication — We work with you and your child’s primary care provider to make referrals. We will discuss your child’s condition and treatment options in ways you can understand.
  • Easy access — We can see most new patients within 1 to 2 weeks after processing your child’s referral. If your child’s primary care provider would like your child to be seen sooner, they can contact our on-call cardiologist to talk about your child’s exact needs.
  • Full spectrum of cardiology care — Our South Sound experts provide timely access to all cardiac services. We will work closely with you and your child’s referring provider to create a treatment plan that is right for your child.

    • Please be at the registration desk 15 minutes before your appointment time. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for parking and wayfinding. We have plenty of free parking at all locations. At some locations, you may need to use the intercom to be buzzed into the clinic.
    • Bring the patient’s insurance card, Social Security number, any needed legal papers (for a legal guardian, a parent who does not have legal custody or a legal name change on the account), a list of medicines your child is taking (include vitamins and herbs), any test results or X-rays that may help with this visit and play and comfort items for your child, like favorite books, toys or music (with headphones). You may also want to bring bottles and pacifiers.
    • Suggested questions to ask your child’s doctor.
    • How to prepare for care at home.
  • What to expect
    • Visits usually take about 1.5 hours.
    • A nurse will greet you and take you to an exam room. They will check your child’s height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate and breathing rate. They may do an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG).
    • A cardiologist asks about your child’s health history and any symptoms, listens to your child’s heart and examines your child. The exam may include touching the chest and feeling for a pulse in the neck, wrist, groin or feet.
    • The doctor may ask for your child to have more tests, such as an echocardiogram, Holter monitor or event monitor.
    • Before you leave, the nurse will review what the doctor said and give you more details about your child’s condition, tests or next steps. If you need a note for school or work, they can provide this.
