At Seattle Children’s Research Institute, we set new standards of pediatric care by finding new treatments and cures for childhood diseases. To accelerate our progress, we bring together the best minds in pediatric research in our state-of-the-art facilities.
We have more than 1 million square feet of lab, clinical research and office space. Our campus is equipped with cutting-edge equipment to support all preclinical and clinical research, as well as cell manufacturing. In addition, we have access to one of the nation’s largest pediatric patient populations, supporting our researchers’ more than 900 active clinical studies.

Connecting Breakthrough Science to Clinical Excellence and Patient Care
Our 1 million square foot campus is more than just infrastructure; it is a purpose-built ecosystem designed to move discoveries from the lab to the bedside.
We offer cutting-edge facilities for preclinical research, clinical trials, and cell manufacturing. Combined with access to one of the nation’s largest pediatric patient populations, we provide the foundation for more than 800 active research studies.
Seattle Children’s Research Institute Downtown Campus
Our downtown Seattle campus includes three adjacent buildings. We are close to our current research partners — the University of Washington and Fred Hutch Cancer Center — and other biotechnology centers. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide pediatric researchers with all the tools necessary to develop, test and produce lifesaving therapeutics.
Our multibuilding research campus is designed to promote seamless collaboration among researchers, including diverse scientific teams. Our advanced facilities help accelerate the translation of new discoveries into effective treatments and bring more cures to patients faster.
B. Wayne Hughes Building, “Building Cure”
The B. Wayne Hughes Building, also known as Building Cure, spans 540,000 square feet to provide researchers with tools and resources that enable them to expedite their discoveries and develop therapies that transform the way childhood diseases are treated.
Building Cure is a place for children, students and community members to learn and be inspired by science.
Building Cure features:
- 225-seat auditorium
- GMP-registered Therapeutics Cell Manufacturing facility
- Indoor and outdoor community spaces and public green spaces
- Laboratory spaces
- Science Discovery Lab where students and community members can interact with scientists and access innovative project-based learning
Jack R. MacDonald Building
The Jack R. MacDonald Building encompasses 236,000 square feet, including six floors outfitted for bench laboratory research. It features our ABSL-3 facility, laboratories for flow cytometry and imaging, and vivarium and aquatics facilities.
1916 Boren
1916 Boren houses our insectaries and a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) facility to support world-class infectious disease research. In addition, more than half of its 124,000 square feet is dedicated lab space, including tissue culture labs, microscopy suites and cold rooms. This lab space also includes specialized environments such as a glass wash facility used to sterilize beakers and other labware.
Seattle Children’s Hospital Campus
Seattle Children’s Research Integration Hub brings together clinicians and researchers to accelerate solutions for complex child health issues. The hub provides investigators with specialized resources including:
- Pediatric Clinical Research Center, which houses research facilities and resources for patient-oriented research
- Radiology Clinical Research Imaging Core for image processing, data collection and storage
- Research Lab Services for basic, clinical and translational research
