From Genes to Justice: Confronting Health Inequities in Cystic Fibrosis
Objectives and Disclosures
Participants will be able to:
- Outline specific health disparities in cystic fibrosis outcomes and care, specifically regarding Hispanic and Black populations, and the barriers these populations face in accessing timely diagnosis, treatment and access to medications.
- Assess the limitations of genetic panels, particularly how they predominantly include variants found in European populations, which can lead to underdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis in non-European populations, and identify ways to advocate for and implement more inclusive genetic testing practices for all diseases that incorporate a broader range of variants, improving early diagnosis.
