Scrubs & ’Scopes Camp
Learn About Allied Health Career Opportunities

Seattle Children’s is committed to recruiting the best healthcare professionals and inspiring high school students to pursue a career in an allied health profession.
If you’ve broken a bone, did you have an X-ray? The last time you were sick, did you pick up medication from a pharmacy? At the beginning of your last doctor’s appointment, did someone check your blood pressure and pulse and oxygen rate? Have you ever had lab work performed when you’ve been sick?
If you answered “yes,” then you’ve interacted with an allied health professional. Allied health describes a range of healthcare professionals who are not doctors or nurses.
We are offering local high school students the opportunity to participate in our free Scrubs & ’Scopes Camp at Seattle Children’s. During this five-day camp, students will explore various allied health careers by job shadowing medical assistants, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and technicians/technologists in Pharmacy, Radiology, Sterile Processing and more in a clinical environment, observing as they provide patient care.
Students will also work through interactive, hands-on simulation labs to learn and practice various skills on models such as taking blood pressure and blood oxygen levels; simulating medication compounding for oral and IV medications; using microscopes; and taking X-rays, among other experiences.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage with allied health professionals to ask questions and discuss various education and career paths.
