Q: Why does my child need a well visit?

A: A well visit is more than a weight check, a sports physical or a time for shots. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions about your child’s growth, development, behavior and general health. It’s a time for us to talk about your concerns about how your child eats, sleeps, learns and gets along with others. With our older patients, we help foster teens’ independence by asking about their healthcare concerns in a private, safe space. A well visit is our chance to learn more about you, your family and your values. This knowledge helps us all achieve your healthcare goals as a team.

Q: When does my child need a well visit?

A: We follow the standard well visit schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We see children at the following ages: 2 to 5 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, 2 and a half years and once every year thereafter through the age of 21.

Q: How can I find out the location of my appointment with my primary care provider?

A: The OBCC team will confirm your child's primary care provider and appointment details each time you schedule an appointment with us. Please call 206-987-7210 for more information. If you use a language other than English, call 866-583-1527, choose your language and tell the interpreter to connect you to OBCC at the number listed above.

Q: Who do I contact to schedule an appointment?

A: To schedule an appointment at OBCC Othello, call 206-987-7210. If you use a language other than English, call 866-583-1527, choose your language and tell the interpreter to connect you to OBCC at the number listed above.

Q: How do I contact my child's care team?

A: For non-urgent issues that do not require a response within 48 hours, you can use MyChart to send a message to your child’s doctor. We recommend using this instead of email so the information stays in your child’s medical record. You may also call our office number during regular office hours at 206-987-7210. If you use a language other than English, call 1-866-583-1527, choose your language and ask to speak to OBCC.

Q: What if my child has an emergency?

A: Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Please let us know when your child visits the emergency department so we can communicate with the hospital specialists and make sure we are working as a team. Learn when your child may need emergency care or can visit their primary care provider or Urgent Care. (PDF) (Simplified Chinese) (Somali) (Spanish) (Vietnamese)

Q: What if my child has an urgent need and is unable to see their provider at OBCC?

A: Seattle Childre's has 4 Urgent Care locations in BellevueEverettFederal Way and Seattle. These locations are open 365 days a year, including holidays. Virtual Urgent Care is also  available for certain patients in Washington State.

Q: What if the doctor is running late for my child’s visit?

A: Your time is valuable, and we make every effort to stay on schedule. Sometimes, our patients arrive very ill or with unexpected concerns that require more time. We ask for your patience and understanding if this happens. We want to give each patient the time and attention they deserve. We will keep you informed while you are waiting and offer you the chance to reschedule your appointment if you prefer.

Q: What if I’m running late for my child’s visit?

A: We know it can sometimes be challenging to get places with children on time. We do ask that you try your best to be on time for your appointment. We recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes early. We appreciate 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a visit. Please call if you are running late and don’t think you will arrive on time. We may be able to see you when you arrive or see you later in the day.
