NEONATAL ENTEROVIRUS AND HUMAN PARECHOVIRUS VIRAL SEPSIS: NATURAL HISTORY AND PREDICTORS OF MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY

Neonatal Viral Sepsis

What is the goal of the study?

Neonates presenting with clinical signs and laboratory data consistent with viral sepsis (who do not have a diagnosis of bacterial, HSV, CMV, or adenovirus sepsis) will be enrolled in this prospective natural history study. Virologic confirmation of the cause of sepsis presentation is not required for study entry but will be determined in the course of the study. Subjects will be followed prospectively for three months to determine mortality and morbidity associated with their disease, and to explore quantitative changes in the causative virus over time.

Who can participate in the study?
