Giving to Seattle Children's
More than 100 years ago, Seattle Children’s was founded by a group of philanthropic women to care for children regardless of race, religion, gender or a family’s ability to pay. Their generous spirit remains as Seattle Children’s continues to provide specialized care to all kids who need us, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Our experts, with the support of donors and volunteers, provide clinical care and research in the relentless pursuit to improve lives today and create better tomorrows. There are many ways to donate and get involved with Seattle Children’s to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families.
Meet Shirley
Shortly after birth, Shirley underwent open-heart surgery at Seattle Children’s to treat a rare congenital heart defect called truncus arteriosus. After returning home to Tacoma, Shirley’s family quickly established care with Josiah Penalver, MD, a pediatric cardiologist at Seattle Children’s South Sound Cardiology Clinic in Tacoma — just a short drive from their home.
“It’s such a relief to have Shirley’s heart team nearby,” says Shirley’s mom, Brianna. “Seattle Children's South Sound Cardiology is like having Seattle Children's Hospital in Tacoma.”
