Biography
Dr. Joanna Wrede is a pediatric sleep neurologist at Seattle Children's Hospital, and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. She completed her MD at Stanford University, followed by Pediatric Neurology residency and Sleep fellowship training through the University of Washington.
Dr. Wrede’s clinical interests involve the intersection between sleep and neurology. Her focus includes hypersomnia conditions like narcolepsy, sleep-related movement disorders like restless legs syndrome, and sleep disorders in neurogenetic conditions. She is a member of the interdisciplinary Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) clinic, the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex program, and the specialty Sleep-Neurology clinic at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She has spoken at national PWS meetings and internationally on the topic of sleep in special syndromic conditions. She has a strong interest in medical education and outreach to underserved communities, and as such is actively involved in teaching in the UW Sleep fellowship program and regional clinical outreach activities in the Pacific Northwest.
Dr Wrede’s overarching goals include raising awareness of sleep disorders and the importance of sleep to general health and wellbeing, educating families, trainees, and fellow medical providers, and furthering the field of Sleep Medicine so that we can all live healthier, happier lives.

Dr. Wrede's clinical interests include sleep in neurodevelopmental disorders, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, healthy sleep habits, circadian rhythm disorders, idiopathic hypersomnia, Prader-Willi Syndrome, and sleep apnea.
