ABC's Mural Arts Class Brightens Downtown Bothell
June 30, 2026
Downtown Bothell is brighter this summer thanks to a beautiful new art piece designed by Seattle Children’s Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center (ABC) Mural Arts class participants.
Awarded and funded by the City of Bothell, the mural sits near the Triangle Junction and represents months of collaborative work by ABC participants. The Mural Arts class is just one of many ABC classes that provide structure, visual cues and a sensory-sensitive space to meet the needs of people with autism spectrum disorder.
Jonathan Baker, ABC Mural Arts class instructor, spearheaded the project, helping students translate their shared identities into the design. Adaptive art tools were available for use, and custom stencils elevated the design.
The piece explores the playful connection between a traffic intersection and the inherent intersectionality of personal identity, featuring community-centric words, traffic lights, people, vehicles and flowers. The background incorporates a topographical map of Bothell, using a full spectrum of color. “Since the mural is located near a traffic intersection, we explored the idea of intersection – the layers of complexity of disability and how it ties into many facets of life,” said Jonathan.

Micah Pepper, operations manager at ABC, reflected on the impact of community integration and public visibility for adults with disabilities. While the team was onsite painting, people walked by and inquired about the piece, curious about who the painters were.
“When adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities have more interaction with their community, they can live fuller, more connected lives,” said Micah. “This mural is a beautiful reminder that we can build a more welcoming community for all.”
ABC offers a wide range of classes all year long in art, music, recreation, health, fitness and life skills.
