Abdominal Pain – Sleep Pain And Cardiac Evaluation-XL (SPACE-XL)

Condition or Therapy:

Chronic abdominal (stomach) pain

Category:

Pediatric Pain & Sleep Innovations Lab; Adolescent Medicine; Gastroenterology

What is the goal of this study?

The goal of the study is to compare sleep, pain and stress between healthy adolescents and adolescents with chronic abdominal pain and test if they respond differently to stressful conditions (e.g. pressure, cold and heat sensation tasks, school related tasks).

Who can join the study?

We invite adolescents 14-18 years old who have been diagnosed with chronic abdominal pain at Seattle Children's Gastroenterology and Pain Clinics and their parents to join the study.

We also invite female adolescents 14-18 years old who do not have chronic pain and their parents to participate.

What will happen if my child takes part in this study?

Adolescents and their parents complete online questionnaires at 4 different timepoints over 12 months. Adolescents wear a watch-like device to measure sleep and will be invited to two lab visits that involve pressure, cold and heat sensation tasks.
