The effect of abatacept on osteoclastogenesis of blood cells and its potential future use in children with chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis

CNO_Osteoclast

What is the goal of the study?

The objectives of this project are: 1) to determine the baseline kinetics of osteoclast formation among peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from children with chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO), and healthy controls; 2) to compare the osteoclast formation among PBMCs from CNO patients at active disease with that during inactive disease; 3) to determine the effects of abatacept (CTLA-4) on the osteoclast formation among PBMCs from CNO patients; 4) to compare the effect of sera from CNO patients on osteoclast formation with those from healthy controls. 5) to determine the serum cytokine profiles of patients with active or inactive disease in comparison to matched controls.
