A Message From Our Gender Clinic

December 1, 2021

We would like to share some new educational resources for primary care providers from the Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic. These can all be found on our website: https://www.seattlechildrens.org/clinics/gender-clinic/education-resources-healthcare-professionals/

Caring for Gender Diverse Youth e-learning coursehttps://cardea.matrixlms.com/visitor_catalog_class/show/595436

  • This free online course is composed of two parts focused on preparing primary care providers to care for gender-diverse youth.
  • Continuing education credits (CNE/CME) are available. There is an optional pre/post survey for research and evaluation.

E-consult: https://www.seattlechildrens.org/healthcare-professionals/community-providers/epiccare-link/

  • We created a new way for community providers to get advice and support directly from our gender clinic team. If your consult question is of a non-urgent nature, we encourage you to submit your question directly to us via our new e-consult order in EpicCare Link. E-consult questions can be submitted by any member of the care team for any patient (not just those who are seen at our Gender Clinic) who is under age 21. E-consults will be responded to by a member of the SCGC team within three business days.
  • Additional information and FAQs about EpicCare Link and the e-consult can be found in the PDF link above. Providers must have access to EpicCare Link to submit an e-consult. To request access, click here: https://www.seattlechildrens.org/healthcare-professionals/community-providers/epiccare-link/

Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic Gender Affirming Hormone Protocolshttps://www.seattlechildrens.org/globalassets/documents/clinics/gender/scgc-gah-protocols.pdf

  • Treatment protocols were created by providers at Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic using a combination of multiple resources, including the Endocrine Society, World Professional Society for Transgender Health (WPATH), and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) guidelines for gender-affirming care, and common practices in our clinic.
  • The protocols are meant to be used as examples to guide the management of gender-affirming medications. They include information on puberty blockers, testosterone, menstrual suppression, estradiol, spironolactone and progesterone.

  • Zoom sessions will be once a month and will include a short didactic and case presentation and discussion. Registration is not yet open, but please fill out the brief survey in the above link to let us know you are interested in joining.
  • Quality Improvement MOC (Part 4) points will be available.

Please feel free to share these resources with anyone who may be interested.
