    Dr. Pinto’s work focuses on improving prenatal detection of congenital heart disease, advancing shared decision-making and family-centered outcomes, and strengthening access to specialty cardiac care, including for rural and globally underserved populations. She is deeply committed to mentoring fellows and faculty and to building collaborative, supportive clinical and academic environments. This stems for her own experience with amazing mentors, sponsors, and leaders who have contributed to her career. 

    Dr. Nelangi Pinto is a Professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington and previously held the role of Associate Division Head for Faculty Affairs. She received her undergraduate education at Harvard University and her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, completed pediatric residency training at the University of Washington, and fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Prior to joining Seattle Children’s, Dr. Pinto spent more than 15 years on faculty at the University of Utah, where she served in multiple leadership roles, including Director of the Fetal Heart Program for nine years, Co-Director of the Utah Fetal Care Center, and Associate Director of Research.

    She is parent to two teenagers, one heading to college soon, and an anxious golden retriever. She met her partner during her residency here in Seattle (hint he’s one of our Heme/Onc attendings). She spends her free time at soccer games and musical/theater performances (both her kids’ and professional), exploring the outdoors with family and friends and trying to find decent skiing this winter.

    Research Description

    My research and my clinical career have focused on improving timely detection of congenital heart disease (CHD) and the impact of detection on costs and longitudinal outcomes. My desire to improve the health of populations also has led to a focus on improving healthcare delivery and access to children and families affected by CHD with a focus on family centered outcomes.
