    Dr. Jason Lau grew up in Massachusetts and completed medical school at the University of Massachusetts, stepping away mid-training for a year as a fellow in the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program in Bethesda, where he helped build one of the first datasets used to teach computers to read radiology images. Dr. Lau completed his pediatric residency at UC Davis in Sacramento, where he was recognized with the Pediatrics Resident Quality Improvement Award. He moved to Seattle for a health services research fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington, and went on to complete a clinical informatics fellowship at UW. Along the way he earned master's degrees in health services and in clinical informatics and patient-centered technologies.

    Much of Dr. Lau's work sits where children's health meets the environment. He has studied the resilience of families in Spokane during the 2021 Northwest heat dome, interviewed caregivers in Seattle about protecting kids with asthma during wildfire smoke season and helped bring live air quality data into UW Medicine so families can be reached before the smoke arrives. He also helped launch a project at Seattle Children's using AI translation, reviewed by bilingual providers, to get written instructions and safety plans into Spanish for the families who need them.

    Outside of the clinic he is usually outdoors — hiking, camping, rock climbing or swim-running — and at home he cooks, bakes, paints in watercolor and photographs the night sky.
