Dr. Janessa Law is the exact human being you would want as an intensive care provider for the smallest and most vulnerable population. She facilitated such a real and deep sense of trust within myself and my family that she became one of our biggest advocates and go to people. Dr. Law is the most immaculate balance of empathetic, speaking as a mother- and deeply knowledgeable; participating in studies and attending conferences to learn and better herself. There was never a moment that I doubted her direction or that she was up to date on the newest treatment options. She spent hours with me- both in person and on the phone- explaining every detail, every option, every possible outcome that she can; all while voicing it in the most understanding and gentle manner necessary. Dr. Law’s commitment as a provider is not only demonstrated in the fact that she would go out of her way to be there for our family, but in the way that I never felt hesitant to ask for her. My admiration and appreciation of Dr. Law was noted throughout the NICU, with other attending as joking that they hoped to obtain that level of status someday too. I have met hundreds of amazing attendings, fellows, MD’s, RN’s, OT/PT’s, surgeons and the like- and none have left more of an impact that she has. Dr. Law empowered me as my child’s caretaker, mother, and medical advocate. She made me feel heard and seen, cared for, and that my opinions and observations mattered. She is a one of a kind person. Knowing that someone so incredibly smart cares so much for you child is sometimes the only hope that will get you through the dark times. Dr. Janessa Law not only saved my sons life, but our entire family as well.
