Transfer a Patient
Transfer of Neonates
To initiate transfer of a patient:
- Call 206-987-5437 (KIDS).
- Our medical control team will arrange the best timing and location for transfer of your patient.
- Read about our Critical Care Transport team and what to expect during the transport process.
Prior to transport
- Obtain consent from receiving facility/providers.
- Inform and obtain consent from family to transport to Seattle Children’s (or other facility) by ground or air.
- Inform family that 1 family member may often ride along in the ambulance or fixed-wing aircraft (at pilot’s discretion, based on safety), but the final decision is up to the team.
- If requested by the medical control physician, fax patient records.
Planning Before Birth
If a problem has been identified during pregnancy and the baby will need care at Seattle Children’s in the first weeks of life, see how to refer a patient to our Fetal Care and Treatment Center.
We will work with you and your patient’s family to plan for a safe delivery and transfer to Seattle Children’s. In some cases, we recommend delivery at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle to facilitate immediate transfer to Seattle Children’s.
We’re committed to partnering with you
