Connecting the Dots to Autism Resources
March 19, 2025

March and April are important months to raise awareness and promote acceptance and understanding of people with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. The lack of resources for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is a significant challenge that many families and individuals face. While there has been progress in supporting children with IDD, resources for adults remain insufficient in many areas.
Adults with IDD encounter numerous challenges, including limited access to housing, employment, recreation, trained healthcare professionals, social integration, transition services and financial support. Additionally, there is a shortage of specialized training for many professionals who work with the adult IDD community. These gaps make it difficult for individuals and families to secure a fulfilling, independent and supported life.
Resource fairs play a crucial role in bridging these gaps by connecting individuals and families with the services they need, especially for those who may not be aware of available resources. On March 21 from 4 to 6 p.m., Seattle Children’s Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center (ABC) will host its annual resource fair, offering a wide range of services and programs for adults with IDD across our region.
The resource fair will feature valuable information from community partners, focusing on services like recreation and respite, housing, vocational training, employment support and local government organizations — all key to improving the lives of adults with IDD. This free event helps families and individuals navigate the complex landscape of resources, ensuring they can access the support they need.
Join us on March 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Alyssa Burnett Center to learn more about available services and how they can support adults with IDD!
