Cleft Lip and Palate – A Retrospective Study of Breast Milk Feeding Children with Oral Clefts

What is the goal of this study?

The goal of the study is to better understand the early feeding experiences of babies with orofacial clefts, including cleft lip, cleft palate, and cleft lip and palate. We will also examine differences in feeding for babies that are diagnosed before birth and after birth.

Who can join the study?

Mothers 18 years and older with a baby that:

  • Has been diagnosed with an orofacial cleft
  • Is patient at Seattle Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Center
  • Was born between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2016

What will happen if my child takes part in this study?

If you choose to take part in the study, you would complete a web-based survey about your babies feeding experiences. Our research staff would also take information about your baby's cleft type and other clinical care information from their medical chart.
