The Velopharyngeal Insufficiency Outcomes Prediction Study (VPI-OPS): A comparative effectiveness study of existing surgical procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency following cleft palate repair and identification of criteria to guide a personalized treatment approach

VPI-OPS

What is the goal of the study?

This is a prospective, observational study to compare the effectiveness of palate re-pair and pharyngoplasty for the treatment of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI). The study population includes children and adolescents ages 3-23 years of age with a history of repaired cleft palate or submucous cleft palate and a diagnosis of VPI. Participants will undergo surgical intervention to treat VPI, with the type of surgery (palate re-pair or pharyngoplasty) being determined by their treating providers according to treatment protocols currently in place at each clinical site. Participants will not be assigned to a treatment intervention by the study investigators.
