Casting vs Bracing for Idiopathic Early-Onset Scoliosis

Casting vs Bracing for IEOS

What is the goal of the study?

The purpose of this project is to establish the relative short-term effectiveness of casting and bracing in the treatment of idiopathic infantile early onset scoliosis. This is a multicenter partially-randomized clinical trial. While our primary analysis will be based on changes in scoliosis as measured by X-Rays, possibly as important is the patient and family experience of scoliosis and its treatment by casting or bracing. This study, and the longer-term follow-ups of patients enrolled in this trial, will provide surgeons and parents with needed information to make informed decisions about casting or bracing.

Who can participate in the study?

Patients less than 3 years old with a diagnosis of idiopathic early-onset scoliosis. Must be standing independently. Must be eligible for casting or bracing treatment as determined by an orthopedic provider.
