Lactation Meal Program

  • Español PDF

The Lactation Meal Program provides nourishment throughout the day for the parent making baby’s milk. We feed you so you can feed your baby.

Who are lactation meals for?

The meals are for the lactating parent at the hospital:

  • whose baby is 0 to 11 months (this program ends on the baby’s 12-month birthday)
  • who breastfeeds/chestfeeds or pumps at least 4 times a day OR if they pump less than 4 times a day but make a full milk supply (more than 25 ounces)

The lactation meals are not for family members or guests, but family and guests may order and pay separately.

When can lactation meals be ordered?

  • 3 times daily, with at least 1 hour between each order
  • Order between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

How are lactation meals ordered?

  • Call the Forest Kitchen by dialing 206-987-6368 from your own phone, or 7-6369 from a hospital phone.
  • You will have a $10 credit for each meal, 3 times a day. The $10 credits may not be combined. For any meal over $10, any major credit card, a hospital room service gift card, or cash may be used. Cash is accepted at the Forest Kitchen pick-up window located on level L1.
  • About 45 minutes after ordering, delivery staff will bring your food to your baby’s room.

Can lactation meals make special dietary needs?

  • A lactating parent with special dietary needs will need to look at a detailed ingredient list of all menu items before ordering.
  • This detailed ingredient list is located at the Forest Kitchen pick-up window – take the Rabbit elevator to level L1 and follow the signs to “Pick-Up Window.”
  • The room service call center does not monitor special diets of parents, family members or visitors.

Are there other ways to get help with food?

Seattle Children’s has social workers who can help with food resources.
