Seattle Children’s Autism Center offers 3 classes about health concerns that often happen with autism: constipation, ADHD/ADD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and sleep.

Constipation and Autism

Learn about constipation, what causes it and treatment options. This class will focus on how constipation can affect children with autism and how to recognize, treat and prevent it.

ADHD/ADD and Autism

Learn about the symptoms of autism and ADHD/ADD that overlap and how to talk to your provider about concerns related to attention and hyperactivity. Explore different treatment options for symptoms related to ADHD/ADD.

Sleep and Autism

Learn about the basics of sleep, common sleep concerns and their most common causes, and strategies you can use to help your child (and the rest of the family) get better sleep.

Who should attend the classes?

The class is for parents or caregivers who want to learn more about constipation, ADHD/ADD and sleep concerns in children with autism. Taking this class can help you understand general strategies or clinical options you may want to pursue to support your child.

How long are the classes?

Each telehealth (video) class is 90 minutes long. This includes time for information sharing, questions and discussion.

Where do the classes take place?

The classes are held online using Zoom. Once you register, you will find your Zoom link in MyChart. If you do not have MyChart, ask how you will receive your Zoom link when you schedule the class.

How much does it cost?

The cost of each class is $25 and is not billed to insurance. We will bill you after each class.

You do not have to pay for the classes if your child has Washington Medicaid (Apple Health) or if you qualify for Seattle Children’s Financial Assistance Program.

Learn more about the Financial Assistance Program at seattlechildrens.org/finasst or by calling 206-987-3333. The Financial Assistance Program is available for patients who meet income and family size requirements. You may qualify even if you have insurance.

How do I register?

Ask your Autism Center provider for referrals to the classes you want to take. Call 206-987-8080 to schedule.

If your child is not a current patient at Seattle Children’s Autism Center, you can ask their primary care provider for a referral to the Accessing Treatment, Learning and Support (ATLAS) class to get started.

What do we need to do before the class?

  • Make sure you can attend the entire 90-minute class.
  • The class is for parents and caregivers. Your child does not need to be present for the class unless they choose to.
  • Make sure you have signed up for MyChart and downloaded Zoom. Find out how by visiting seattlechildrens.org/clinics/telemedicine.

What should I do if I have trouble logging into the class or I need to reschedule?

You can send a message through MyChart or call our scheduling team at 206-987-8080 if you have trouble logging into the class or if you are unable to attend.

Language matters

At Seattle Children’s Autism Center, we care for children and teens across the entire autism spectrum. Because of this, we use both person-first (child with autism) and identity-first (Autistic child) language. When you meet with a provider, please let them know which language you prefer.
