At Seattle Children’s, providing hope and healing requires more than exceptional medical treatment – it’s about focusing on the entire patient experience. That’s why Seattle Children’s recently hosted its first-ever Patient Prom to give teenage patients a chance for connection, community and fun.
Many young patients have grown up being in and out of the hospital on a regular basis, facing rare diseases, developmental disorders, cancer diagnoses and other challenging medical conditions that often keep them from participating in activities like a high school prom. So, the hospital staff and volunteers recently hosted Seattle Children’s first Patient Prom event, giving 35 teenage patients the chance to come together and enjoy a special night.
With donated dresses and suits, corsages and boutonnieres, themed decorations, a photo booth, food, a light-up dance floor, DJ and even a mini horse (who was dressed to impress), these patients had the opportunity to have fun and move to the music. Because sometimes, the best medicine is a glittery party dress!
