Seattle Children’s Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care Now Open

November 6, 2024

In response to the growing need for urgent care related to orthopedic injuries and the importance of pediatric patients having timely access to specialized orthopedic care, Seattle Children's opened an Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care clinic on October 28. Seattle Children’s Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care is the very first pediatric specialty orthopedic urgent care location in Washington state.

Who can access Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care?

  • The clinic cares for patients ages 4 through 20 with urgent orthopedic and sports-related injuries that do not need the services of an emergency department.

How can patients access Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care?

  • Patients do not need a referral to be seen at Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care.
  • Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care is open 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, with closures on major holidays.
  • This clinic requires in-person visits to Seattle Children’s Hospital (4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle).
  • Walk-in appointments are highly encouraged, or there is limited availability for same-day visits to be scheduled online.

What services can be provided at Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care?

  • Assessment of broken bones (not bent or curved), sprains and strains, bone and joint pain, and cast issues.
  • Treatment and care planning including x-ray and advanced imaging, bracing, casting, and prescribing medication.
  • Access to advanced treatment, including surgery for acute injuries, will be available when needed.

What can you expect and how can you help as a PCP to these patients?

  • If your patient is seen by Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care and you are listed as their PCP, we will fax notes from their visit to you, typically within five business days.
  • Familiarize yourself with what injuries can be seen at urgent care vs. the ED and direct your patients accordingly. Our updated guide is helpful and can be shared with families.
  • If your clinic refers patients to other sites for urgent care needs, consider adding this option to your referral list.
