New Animated Video: Common Therapies for Autism

Illustrated characters

Another video has been added to Seattle Children’s “Introduction to Autism” animated series. “Supporting Autism: Common Therapies” describes options including speech and occupational therapies, social skills groups, mental health therapy and medications. A future video will cover applied behavior analysis therapy.

The videos are available on Seattle Children’s Autism Center website and on YouTube. The series was created by experts in Seattle Children’s Autism Center and Patient Family Education team and was made possible through the generous support of Wizards of the Coast.

Please share with families as appropriate. More videos will launch in the coming months, including versions in Spanish and other languages.

Free Training for Parents and Caregivers of Children Ages 5 to 12 With Disruptive Behavior

Currently, one of the most highly searched topics on Seattle Children’s website is help for pediatric behavior problems. To provide additional resources to families, community providers can suggest the Behavior Basics self-guided class for those who are seeking this support. The class can be used as a stand-alone program or to teach parent-training skills so caregivers can work on them at home and jump-start behavior changes while they wait for other behavioral health services.

The FAST-Behavior Basics class, created by Seattle Children’s Behavior and Attention Management team, has eight core videos and three bonus videos (each around two-to-five minutes long) that go with the caregiver worksheets from the FAST-Behavior workbook.
