Community providers know that when it comes to caring for patients, having a trusted hospital in the nearby area makes a big difference. Many patient families aren’t willing to travel long distances – they prefer to go to hospitals in their community.

That’s why Seattle Children’s has built a large network of collaborations and affiliations across Washington, working alongside community hospitals and healthcare organizations to strengthen pediatric care closer to home.

Together, these collaborations combine the strengths of local providers with Seattle Children’s specialty expertise, allowing more children to receive the right care in their own communities while ensuring seamless access to advanced pediatric services when needed. They also help create more coordinated care experiences for patients and families by strengthening communication, care coordination, and continuity between community providers and Seattle Children's specialists.

Here are two examples of Seattle Children’s collaborations in action:

EvergreenHealth Joint Venture – The Seattle Children’s and EvergreenHealth Neonatal and Pediatric Specialty Care affiliation was established to expand access to high-quality neonatal and pediatric specialty care for children throughout the Eastside and surrounding communities.

This collaboration brings additional capacity, pediatric expertise and specialized capabilities for neonatal and pediatric patients on the Eastside through Seattle Children’s subspecialists, shared clinical protocols and integrated care models.

Through the affiliation, Seattle Children’s physicians collaborate with EvergreenHealth teams to provide inpatient pediatric specialty expertise, including pediatric cardiology consults, pediatric hospital medicine services, specialty telehealth consults for NICU patients, and a Therapeutic Hypothermia Program.

The collaboration allows many Eastside families to receive inpatient pediatric specialty care closer to home while maintaining access to Seattle Children’s expertise when additional specialty care is needed. As community needs continue to evolve, Seattle Children’s and EvergreenHealth will continue exploring opportunities to expand services that improve local access.

Providence St. Peter Hospital Collaboration – Seattle Children’s partners with Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia to provide 24/7 pediatric hospital medicine coverage for the Pediatric Inpatient Unit, helping ensure that children in the South Puget Sound region have access to pediatric-focused inpatient care close to home. The collaboration also supports coordinated transfers to Seattle Children’s when highly specialized pediatric services are needed.

Seattle Children’s pediatric hospitalists care for infants, children and adolescents with a broad range of acute medical conditions including respiratory illnesses, infections, gastrointestinal conditions, allergic reactions and other pediatric illnesses, while partnering closely with referring providers and Providence teams to support timely, coordinated care.

Collaborations and Affiliations Provide Improved Access

To serve the growing needs of the region, Seattle Children’s expands patient access through clinical affiliations, regional neonatal and pediatric hospital networks, outreach clinics and collaborations with community hospitals and healthcare systems across Washington.
