Join the Team Seattle Guild for their 16th Annual Kart Challenge! Anyone can organize a team and compete in this fun event benefiting uncompensated care and the Cardiology Research Fund. The two-hour race takes place on Friday, August 7, at PGP Motorsports Park, Seattle’s premier karting track, which is conveniently located adjacent to Pacific Raceways. The race starts at 6 p.m. (drivers’ meeting at 5 p.m.). Karts and helmets are supplied for drivers. You can participate in the Kart Challenge if you’re 15 or older. The Alder Gathering is the inaugural event of the ALDER Guild — a new community celebrating pediatric medical education across the WWAMI region, and the ongoing legacy of the UW/Seattle Children's pediatric training programs. The guild supports pediatric residents, fellows and medical students, and strives to deepen the connection between our training programs’ current members, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who make this special community what it is.

This year's Gathering will also recognize and honor Dr. Richard Shugerman as he retires. For decades, Dr. Shugerman has shaped pediatric medicine across the WWAMI region — as Program Director, Vice Chair for Faculty Development, and a tireless advocate for pediatric education. He has mentored and inspired generations of pediatricians, educators, and trainees, and there could be no better way to launch a guild dedicated to that same mission.

On Saturday, August 8, at 3 p.m., this community will gather in Seattle to celebrate. All faculty, colleagues, trainees, alumni, friends, community members and family are warmly welcome.

A meaningful way to celebrate — and to honor Richard's legacy — is to invest in the next generation of pediatricians. The 18th annual Run of Hope Seattle offers a 5K Run, 3K Walk, Kids Dash (for kids 8 and under) and, if you can't make it in person, a Virtual 5K all to raise money and awareness for cancer research at Seattle Children's.

We invite you to join us for a morning of fun, camaraderie and LOTS OF HOPE on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Seward Park.

Held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, this year’s event has been thoughtfully expanded into a full sit-down dinner experience, complete with wide selection of curated beverages, dessert and an engaging silent and live auction.
