Palliative Care Grand Rounds: Brannon Warn-Johnston in Conversation With Mike Cardenas Willen, David Knott and Antoinette Lindberg
Accomplished composer, violinist and multi-instrumentalist Brannon Warn-Johnston often takes inspiration for her works from her lived experiences, such as her journey with cancer and the medical system, her love for nature and backpacking/camping trips with her violin. Her music has been performed at Carnegie Hall and by major ensembles such as the Seattle Symphony and International Contemporary Ensemble. She has also been featured on National Public Radio's From the Top show: "Young Pacific Northwest Talent," as well as on Classical KING's Northwest Focus Live.
Warn-Johnston's electroacoustic composition, A Year With Cancer, which she will perform at the Mann Family Grand Rounds, has received recognition from the Tribeca New Music Young Composers Competition (Emerging Composer award) and support from multiple grants which have allowed it to be performed numerous times throughout the region and country. She uses solo violin and sounds that she recorded at Seattle Children's Hospital during her treatment to tell the story, from her perspective as the patient, of the first year after being diagnosed with cancer.
The Q&A will be facilitated by Ursala Schwenn. Join us for further conversation with Brannon Warn-Johnston immediately following Grand Rounds in the Nadella Event Space from 9 to 11 a.m., located across from the River Starbucks. Light refreshments will be served.
