  • Biography

     

     

    Dr. Teresa Ward, PhD, RN, FAAN is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute. She has adjunct appointments in the School of Nursing and Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology at the University of Washington.

    Teresa's research focuses on sleep health and tailored interventions that integrate technology, behavior change, and shared-management strategies for children, adolescents, and their caregivers to promote sleep and improve health and wellbeing. As a nurse scientist, Teresa's research interests grew from her clinical practice as a nurse practitioner in a pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders center where she managed behavioral and medical sleep problems. Teresa and her interdisciplinary team partner with children, adolescents and their families in the design and development of sleep interventions using a socio-ecological approach to understand interactions among family, home, school, neighborhood, and culture. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, NSF and foundational grants.

    Dr. Ward is a fellow in the American Academy of Nurses, Western Academy of Nurses, and a recepient of the American College of Nurse Midwives Exemplary Partner Award.  Teresa collaborates with the Pain and Sleep Innovation Lab in the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute and the Center for Pediatric Nursing Research at Seattle Children's Hospital.

    Dr. Ward earned her undergraduate degree in Nursing at Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales, a master of science in Nursing at Drexel University, and a PhD at University of California, San Francisco. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of Washington. Before joining the UW School of Medicine and Seattle Children's Reseach Institute, Teresa was a faculty member in the Department of Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing at the University of Washington School of Nursing for 15 years.
