  • Biography

Parthiv Haldipur, PhD is a senior research scientist at the Norcliffe Foundation Center for Integrative Brain Research specializing in cerebellar development and disease.

    Research Description

The main objective of my research is to advance our understanding of cerebellar development and its relevance to a broad spectrum of neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. My research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that guide the formation of the cerebellum and how disruptions in these processes give rise to structural birth defects such as Dandy-Walker malformation, cerebellar vermis hypoplasia, and rhombencephalosynapsis, as well as cerebellar tumors like medulloblastoma.

A central goal of my work is to elucidate how early developmental events shape the architecture and function of the mature cerebellum. By investigating both normal and abnormal developmental trajectories, my research offers critical insights into the origins of cerebellar dysfunction and contributes to a broader understanding of complex neurological diseases.

Within Prof Kathleen Millen's lab, I employ an integrative toolkit—spanning histopathology, transcriptomic profiling, and advanced molecular and imaging techniques—to dissect the mechanisms underlying cerebellar patterning, progenitor dynamics, and neuronal differentiation. This includes the use of single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and high-resolution imaging to build a comprehensive, multilayered map of cerebellar development and pathology.

Comparative developmental studies across species is a cornerstone of my research strategy, allowing for the identification of evolutionarily conserved and human-specific features of cerebellar development. This cross-species perspective provides valuable context for understanding human vulnerability to cerebellar malformations and diseases, and for identifying fundamental principles of brain development conserved across evolution.
