Lauren Michelle Gunderman, MD
On staff since September 2023
Academic Title: Assistant Professor
Research Center: Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies
"During residency, I decided to become an allergist/immunologist after working with mentors in the field who were amazing teachers and lifelong learners. This field is constantly advancing, so educating patients and families about what is new, what has changed or what is on the horizon is very important and keeps me motivated. Supporting children and families through challenging diagnoses is the most valuable piece of my work."

Dr. Gunderman completed her undergraduate, medical school and pediatric residency in Ohio. After completing Pediatric residency at the Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital, she pursued allergy and immunology training at Northwestern and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. There she developed an interest in inborn errors of immunity, educating families about pediatric allergic diseases, and the advancement of new therapies in both immunologic and allergic conditions. Her Advanced Research year at Northwestern was focused on pediatric heart transplant patients’ immune phenotype and the impact on post-transplant outcomes.
