"Throughout my medical and surgical training I was struck by the importance of normal fluid and cell transport. Over the past twenty years I have gravitated to the study and treatment of vascular anomalies and I am motivated to discover how to control vessel growth in these anomalies, so that we can offer more effective treatment and care to affected patients. It is exciting to live and practice medicine in a time when we have the biologic and genetic tools to make these treatments a reality."

  • Jonathan A. Perkins, DO, practices pediatric otolaryngology at Seattle Childrens Hospital and he is a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Perkins earned his DO at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, did his residency training in otolaryngology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Wash., and a pediatrics fellowship at Seattle Childrens and the University of Washington.

While practicing all aspects of pediatric otolaryngology, his primary research interests are communication disorders and vascular anomalies of the head and neck. He serves as head of the Vascular Anomaly multidisciplinary service which is now the largest such service in the Western United States. He also participates in the Craniofacial Center with a focus on palate repair. He practices at both the Bellevue and Sand Point campuses.

I have never met a more compassionate and invested doctor. My daughter has faced a lot of medical challenges from her condition, and Dr. Perkins has been there for her 100 percent from her early childhood going into her teens. I consider this gentleman to be a hero, and we will consider him to be a member of our family for years and years to come. Thank you so so much, Dr. Perkins!

    • Kris East Wenatchee, WA 06.28.18

Dr. Perkins performed surgery on my granddaughter when she was 1 1/2 months old to remove a hemangioma on her ear. He was excellent is explaining things to us. I appreciated that Dr. Perkins asked permission to take tissue samples for research. I recommend Dr. Perkins as he is very personable in dealing with family members and providing reassurance all your questions will be answered.

When my oldest daughter was just days old, we began to notice a dark spot forming on her nose. The spot began to grow rapidly, forming what appeared to be a blood blister. After talking to local doctors who didn't seem concerned, I ran into a mom whose daughter had been through treatment for a hemangioma and she recommended that I send photos of Kambri to Dr. Perkins. I heard back from Dr. Perkins right away, and we began traveling regularly to Seattle for treatments. Fourteen months into treatment, Dr. Perkins performed surgery and successfully removed the hemangioma from her nose. He was amazing. Dr. Perkins and his staff were kind, compassionate, understanding, and willing to take time to make sure that we understood the treatments and procedures. We appreciate everything that they did for us, and couldn't be more grateful for the Dr. Perkins! I recommend him to every parent whose child has a hemangioma.

We met Dr Perkins last year because my daughter has a port wine stain on her face and she also needed her tonsils removed and we thought he was the best choice she would have as he is familiar with pws. We sound dr Perkins to be not only to be a great surgeon but we absolutely love the way he treats my child with respect und patience and answered every question she has. Jasmine has had 2 surgeries with dr Perkins now and we just love his team approach for treating her. He is great.

    • Nicole Issaquah, WA 12.08.14

Dr. Perkins met with me on the second appointment regarding my 6 month old son who had already been on antibiotics for 3 months due to chronic ear infections. As he was quite young, I was very nervous for Dr. Perkins to place tubes in my son's ears...I had a TON of questions. He was very empathetic and professional during our appointment. I felt like he was completely willing to take the time to answer my questions, did not pawn me off on a member of his care team, and looked me in the eye as he answered my questions. The experience made me VERY comfortable with the procedure for my little guy. I don't know that I would have been so at ease with anyone else. The time he took up front was critical to my comfort as a parent. My son's ear infections cleared up soon after this appointment and helped tremendously.

Dr perkins preformed surgery on my 13 mnth daughter, he was very helpful answered questions, and spoke to me directly after procedure issues instead of having me talk to a nurse. Iam was very pleased w my daughters care and recommendation he ha given her since.

    • Adrianne Renton,WA 05.28.13

Hello, my daughter had a lump on her neck for over a month before someone was able to refer me to Dr Perkins, I am so glad we were able to be referred to him! He was so assuring and relaxed! His presence is with ease and helped my husband and I stay at ease for the surgery! Thank you Dr Perkins for all your help! :)

    • Kurrin Moses Lake Washington 06.04.12

Dr. Perkins is simply AMAZING. He has taken the time to PERSONALLY call us to discuss things such as plans, medications, and support ect. We are not just a number to him. He is so caring and really wants what is best for his patients. HE will do whatever it takes to help. He is very educated in this particular field and he LOVES what he does. I am soooooo thankful we found him to be our daughter specialist. Right now my daughter doesnt have anymore tumor and has been tumor free for almost 3 years. She has only had slightly enlarged lymohnodes and swollen tissues which is to be expected with her LM. HE did such an amazing job with her surgery you would never even know she has LM. I love him as he is a life savor.

    • Ricki Everson Washington 06.01.12

Dr. Perkins and his amazing team saved my daughters life. When our local doctors didn't know what was wrong with her when she was born Dr. Perkins was there and took action. She is a beautiful, sassy little girl now and we continue to visit Dr. Perkins when her Lymphatic Malformation swells. Dr. Perkins is amazing at helping to understand the process and just there to listen to my concerns. Thank you to everyone at Seattle Children's for saving my daughters life and the continued care she receives.

    • Shelby Bremerton, WA 09.18.11

Dr. Perkins was my life saver, I was misdiagnosed with a cavernous hemangioma as a baby. When this did not go away like it was supposed to, he diagnosed me correctly with a vascular malformation, and because it was causing me so much nerve pain his team for vascular anomalies was amazing and worked together to help find a way to help my pain, and treat the malformation while studying it. My malformation is not typical its wrapped around my nerve bunch called the brachial plexis. I have to say that Dr. Perkins and his team was amazing and did everything they could to help me. I would recommend them to anyone!

    • Andrea Wenatchee 09.08.11

We met Dr. Perkins at an ultrasound before our son was born with a lymphatic malformation. He has been with us every step of the way as we have adjusted to life with this complex diagnosis. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field, the best, and focused on choosing the best treatment based on what produces the best outcomes. I appreciate that he is continually involved in research and has contributed valuable information to the medical field, earning him deserved respect among his peers. He truly is interested in these rare vascular anomalies and bettering the lives of the patients he treats.

    • Carla Shoreline, WA 05.03.11

Dr. Perkins is a very caring doctor and embraces his work with heart and soul. He is very honest, clearly explains options and risks for you to consider in your child's care decision and leaves the decision in your hands (patient and family). I highly respect him for being upfront, for the care he has provided and the clarity that he has brought to my understanding of what he is thinking, his options and what he is doing to think through the care of my son. Dr. Perkins has improved my son's life and taught our family more about his passion for his work. Thank you Dr. Perkins.

    • Jimmy Bellevue, Wa 01.27.11

Dr. Perkins performed surgery on our daughter and did an amazing job. He explained the process thoroughly, answered all of our questions to great detail and most importantly took great care of our baby. One year later, the surgery has had a big positive impact in all of our lives. Thank you Dr. Perkins.

    • Stacy Seattle, WA 12.22.10

Dr. Perkins has made a significant impact in care for Vascular Anomalies patients nationwide. Although he practices in Seattle, his impact reaches far beyond the WAMI limits. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on vascular anomalies to raise awareness of these conditions amongst medical professionals and to update them on his team's research findings. Furthermore, he leads up the national Vascular Anomalies Task Force - a group of physician experts seeking to collaborate for research and for improving care for vascular anomalies patients. In addition to his amazing accomplishments, he is a kind and caring doctor and a man of honorable character. His passion to serve his patients with excellence is evident to everyone around him.
