  • Biography

    Dr. Gabe Sarah, MD, MAEd currently serves as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor in the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine within the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, working clinically at Seattle Children’s Hospital. 

     

    Dr. Sarah’s parents emigrated to the United States from Syria and settled their family in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Sarah attended the University of Arizona where he was granted a BA in the interdisciplinary studies of chemistry, microbiology, and humanities and, subsequently, his Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed his anesthesiology residency and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. 

     

    Dr. Sarah has a 15-year history of working within undergraduate and graduate medical education and received his master’s in education, with an emphasis on medical education, from the University of California, Berkeley. He served on faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, for nearly a decade prior to his move to Seattle. At UCSF he served as the associate program director for the anesthesiology residency and held multiple roles within undergraduate medical education while also being a member of the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators. Dr. Sarah also served as the founding chair and president of the board of the California Society of Anesthesiologists’ Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the CSA. 

     

    As Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah leads a team of two assistant deans and over thirty staff dedicated to all aspects of student support from matriculation to graduation. He oversees academic support and tutoring, career advising, counseling and wellness services, service learning, all medical student equity and engagement programming, the learning environment, financial aid, registration, compliance, and visiting students, as well as overseeing the MSPE, or dean’s letter.
