  • Biography

    Dr. Emily Neuhaus is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, an investigator in the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Childrens, and a licensed clinical psychologist at Seattle Childrens Autism Center. Dr. Neuhaus completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Washington, with a clinical internship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and degrees from the University of Oregon.

    Clinical Interests

    As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Neuhaus provides direct clinical care for children and families at the Seattle Children's Autism Center, with a specialty in diagnostic evaluations. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families who have been referred to consider whether autism might be a fit.

    Research Description

    As a researcher, Dr. Neuhaus studies social-emotional experiences and mental health among individual with neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, intellectual disability, ADHD, and rare genetic conditions.

    Broad goals include understanding the biological and genetic mechanisms underlying social and emotional experiences, charting developmental trajectories of social and emotional functioning as children and adolescents grow, exploring the role of individual differences as they affect outcomes, and identifying ways in which environmental factors and supports might influence and interact with these systems. Dr. Neuhaus also studies rare genetic conditions to learn more about how they affect neurodevelopment and mental health.

    To explore these topics most richly, Dr. Neuhaus includes a range of methods in her research, including self- and caregiver-report, structured clinical/behavioral assessments, and neurobiological methods (e.g., EEG). She also works in close collaboration with colleagues at Seattle Children's and the University of Washington.
