Newborn Care

We are excited to welcome your new baby into our practice!

We will see your newborn after they are born and leave the hospital or birthing center. We recommend putting your pediatrician's name on your birth plan to help with communication.

It is recommended that you schedule your first newborn visit with our team as close to 2 days after leaving the hospital or birthing center as possible.

What to Bring to Your First Visit

  • Any paperwork from the hospital, including hearing screen results and immunization records
  • Any available insurance information (often only the parent’s insurance is available at the first visit)
  • Diapers and an extra set of clothes
  • Any forms we ask you to complete

What to Expect at the First Visit

During this newborn care visit, your child’s pediatrician will perform the required newborn screening tests in the office so you do not need to make a separate trip to the hospital for your baby’s testing.

Your newborn’s checkup is a comprehensive exam to be sure they are growing and developing normally. During the checkup, the pediatrician:

  • Checks your baby’s weight, length and head circumference.
  • Evaluates your baby’s feeding, sleeping and bowel habits.
  • Conducts a physical examination, including an eye exam.
  • Performs a developmental evaluation.
  • Addresses any of your questions or concerns.
