Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI)
Seattle Children's Research Institute is dedicated to maintaining public trust in the integrity of our research-related activities. The identification and responsible management of financial conflicts of interest (FCOI) are crucial both for safeguarding research objectivity and for compliance with federal regulations and Children's policies.
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is responsible for administration of the FCOI program, which includes staff education about FCOI, review of all disclosed financial interests, effective management of any FCOI matters and reporting to appropriate federal agencies as needed.
Federal Regulations
Seattle Children's Financial Conflicts of Interest Policy (ORC-003) (PDF) has been developed to address and comply with the federal regulations:
- Responsibility of Applicants for Promoting Objectivity in Research for Which PHS Funding Is Sought 42 CFR Part 50, Subpart F
- Responsible Prospective Contractors 45 CFR Part 94 (PDF)
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has provided a summary of the major changes (PDF) that resulted from the 2011 updates to these regulations.
At Seattle Children's, the Financial Conflicts of Interest Policy (ORC-003) applies to all sponsored research activity, regardless of funding source.
FCOI Information Requests
