  • Biography

Dr. Laguna received her undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of New Mexico and her M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her Pediatric Residency and Chief Residency at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. She completed her Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship training and obtained a master’s degree in Clinical Science at the University of Colorado. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Laguna was recruited to the University of Minnesota where she was the Co-Director of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center and Director of the Pediatric CF Program. She then moved to Chicago to be the Division Chief of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern University School of Medicine where she also served as the CF Center Director and Director of the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Center of Excellence. Dr. Laguna was then recruited back to become the new Division Chief of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Dr. Laguna has built her research career in early lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF). Her NIH R01 and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) grant-funded work focuses on early infections in the CF airway and the role of anaerobic communities in the development of lung disease. She is a national mentor for the CFF and serves on NIH and CFF grant review study sections. She has been recognized for her teaching efforts as an Outstanding Faculty Educator by pediatric residents five times. She is active in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives locally, regionally, and nationally. Dr. Laguna has been active in many professional societies including the American Thoracic Society where she has served as Co-Chair of the DEI Advisory Group, Chair of the Program Committee and will be the incoming Chair of the Pediatrics Assembly.

  • Patient Testimonials

    • Mackenzie Everett, WA 04.01.24

Dr. Laguna has been the biggest advocate for my son. She listened to me and my concerns and took me seriously. She then advocated for him to get the care he needed by other specialties in a timely manner. I would recommend Dr. Laguna to anyone!

    • Theresa Seattle 01.08.24

In 2023 my 7 year old son was admitted to the ICU after a soccer game due to his Asthma. During our stay at Children's, we were under the care of Dr. Laguna. She was extremely helpful and took very good care of my son. She also made an effort to teach other providers around her about my sons situation and it was very admirable to see her go above and beyond for my kid. We are so grateful she was able to provide such good care to us. Thanks to her and her team at Children's, my son is healthy and playing soccer once again!
