  • Biography

    Steven Akuffo is a licensed clinical psychotherapist for children, adolescents, and families at Odessa Brown Children's Clinic - Garfield High School. He specializes in Afrikan-centered psychotherapy and incorporates Afrikan cultural concepts to help improve the lives of people of Afrikan-descent. He has a focus on Black psychology, cultural trauma, family dynamics, and Black adult/adolescent behavior. Steven has spent several years researching the effects of cultural trauma impacting people of Afrikan descent, particularly the effects on the Black nuclear family, Black adolescent male and female psychological development. He has worked on reducing Black youth aggression and antisocial behavior in Black underserved communities, which has long been a social dilemma. Steven has experience working with youth and families of all ethnic backgrounds and has extensive training in cultural competency, trauma-informed care interventions and cognitive-based therapies. Steven provides research-based, evidence-based, and culturally based solutions, including awareness of the importance of culture and the benefits of developing a cultural identity, which helps work towards the reduction and remediation of trauma-related psychological disorders induced by cultural trauma.
