  • Biography

Nancy McAllister, MD received her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She traveled with her husband Sumner, a family physician to Columbus, OH for pediatric training at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Upon completion of training, she worked as a general pediatrician in Boise, ID for several years while raising her young family.

Following a dream to care for kids with cancer, she completed a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. With an interest in sarcoma, she led the sarcoma team for two years before moving to Minnesota Children’s Hospital allowing her to be closer to her family. There she had an exceptional solid tumor team committed to caring for many wonderful kids and young adults. She had a special interest in Adolescent/Young Adult Oncology, and along with colleagues helped start their AYA program.

When her adult kids moved to Washington State for college, she was thrilled to move to Bellingham with her husband.  She recognizes the privilege of caring for patients with cancer and blood disorders along with those undergoing stem cell transplants with world-class colleagues.  Spending time with family, mountain biking, hiking and gardening help her maintain work life balance.

Nancy was my daughter Sarah’s oncologist at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital. She helped the entire family through our cancer journey with love and compassion but most of all with her professional knowledge and treatment of sarcoma.

Dr. McAllister is fantastic, and made me become interested in healthcare as a field after seeing the great care she provided. She is always very attentive and interested in you as a person, not just as a patient. She left enough of an impression on me that I wanted to write a review 10+ years later, after I got my own doctorate and try to emulate her patient care on a daily basis :)
