  • Biography

    Brian A. Coakley, MD, FACS, FAAP, Dipl ABOM is an attending surgeon in the Division of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery at Seattle Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine. 

    Dr. Coakley obtained his A.B. from Harvard University and his M.D. from Oregon Health & Science University. He completed general surgery residency at The Mount Sinai Health System (New York, NY), pediatric general surgery fellowship training at British Columbia Children’s Hospital (Vancouver, BC) and pediatric surgical oncology fellowship training at MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX). Prior to joining the team in Seattle, he practiced as a general pediatric surgeon for over 7 years at Mount Sinai (NYC, NY). 

    Dr. Coakley is board certified in adult general surgery, pediatric general surgery and obesity medicine. He is an active member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Canadian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

    Clinical Interests

    Dr. Coakley's clinical interests include the treatment of solid tumors as well as offering bariatric surgery to adolescents battling obesity and obesity-related co-morbidities. He currently serves as the Director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

    Research Description

    Dr. Coakley's research interests include both surgical outcomes as well as the influence of public policy on multiple measures of childhood health.
