  • Biography

    Gregory J. Redding, MD, is a professor in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at Seattle Children's Hospital and director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Training Center grant at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He earned his MD from Stanford University. He completed a pediatrics residency at Harbor General/UCLA and a pediatric pulmonary fellowship at the University of Colorado.

    Redding is committed to improvement in childrens health and health care through research, training, advocacy, clinical excellence and improvement in systems of health care. Redding is an internationally recognized expert and leader in pediatric pulmonary medicine. His current interests include children with chest wall and spine deformities, bronchiectasis and asthma. Redding's research interests include the pathogenesis of chronic lung disease in developing countries, disorders of the spine and thorax and disorders of the diaphragm. His training philosophy is to ensure critical thinking and creative application of physiologic principles to clinical problems. He is a consultant to the Maternal-Child Health Bureau on national leadership training in the health-care professions.

    Research Description

    Clinical and physiologic epidemiology of pediatric lung diseases, currently including bronchiectasis in indigenous populations and chest wall disorders in infants.

    Current research themes include:
    1) bronchiectasis in developing countries and indigenous populations and
    2) respiratory consequences of spine and chest wall deformities and their treatments
    3) diaphragm disorders and evaluation of surgical interventions
