My son was born with congenital heart and kidney defects; he also developed a staph infection in his blood in 2011. He was in Children's for a couple of weeks for the staph infection - meeting with cardio, neurology, Infectious Disease, orthopedics, and urology/nephrology. We spent a few days at Children's again a few months later for open-heart surgery. On both occasions Dr. Deen spent considerable time with us... compassionately explaining to my wife and I the details of our son's conditions/complications, and the plan for combatting the issues that needed attention. He (as well as other Dr.'s at Children's) made us feel like we were getting the BEST possible care... we have absolutely no doubt. He took the time to explain things to our "level" of medical understanding, and also took the time to explain to my son (5 yrs old at the time). He was not the Dr. "in charge" of my son's case, but he still came around and checked on us during his meal breaks, and after he was off for the day, prior to going home. He also took the time to explain things to MY parents when they came to support my son, when I was too emotional/stressed to properly do so. It's been nearly 5 years and we all vividly remember him and his calming and compassionate presence. We can't thank the Dr.'s at Children's Hospital in Seattle enough for who they are and what they do... Dr. Deen is a glaring example of what parents/patients are hoping to get from a Dr. during a very stressful and life-changing experience. We regularly pray for the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Children's... and specifically for Dr. Deen.
Thank you all, and God Bless!
