"My primary career mission is to provide high quality care for children with congenital heart disease while compassionately supporting the family throughout the process. From early diagnosis, even before babies are born, my focus is to prepare families for the next months and years to come. Being a part of a family's journey throughout life, acting as a medical advocate while understanding their cultural, social and emotional background, allows me to help guide each child's experience through our heart center and into adulthood. Families come to Seattle Children's Hospital at their most vulnerable times, and they deserve more than excellent medical diagnostics and state-of the-art medical care. They deserve compassion and patient attention from their medical team so we can work together to support their child. Seeing children in my clinic whom I have known since before they were born. Getting to see their successes and victories in life while sharing a moment of sheer joy with their families. The "look how far we've come" moments are the best. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. We love exploring new places, whether it be hiking, camping, canoeing, traveling to new destinations, re-experiencing movies and books with my children (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, to name a few), and eating my way through Seattle."

    Bhawna Arya, MD, is attending physician at Seattle Children's Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Arya earned her bachelor of arts in psychology and public health from the Johns Hopkins University, and her medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York. Her advanced fellowship training in pediatric cardiac non-invasive imaging was completed at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology.
