Urology, Developmental Pediatrics

On staff since August 2005

Children's Title: Co-Director of the Seattle Robotic Surgery Program

Academic Title: Associate Professor of Urology, University of Washington

Research Center: Center for Clinical and Translational Research

"I always liked working with my hands, so when I went to medical school, I knew I wanted to be a surgeon. I gravitated to pediatrics because children provide a special energy you don't always get from adults. All they want to do is get out of the hospital, and that helps with the healing."

Thomas S. Lendvay, MD, is Attending Pediatric Urologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Washington. His clinical and research focus is on minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopy and telerobotic surgical technologies.

He has spearheaded the robotics program at Seattle Children’s, where he is Co-Director of the Robotics program, and collaborates with the University of Washington biorobotics engineering department on clinical applications of new telerobotic technologies. Dr. Lendvay is member expert of the university’s Institute for Surgical and Interventional Simulation Center, which helps advance surgical education for medical students and residents through simulation curriculum; he is involved in the development of a virtual reality percutaneous catheter placement simulator. Through his work with the biorobotics lab, he became involved in a NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations demonstration of remote telerobotic surgery that was performed from Seattle to a submerged space station off the coast of Florida in spring 2007. He is the recipient of prestigious external grants from the Department of Defense.

My son was born with undescended testicles. We didn't know anything about this term, his pediatrician didn't explain much about it until my son turn 1. Not until we saw Dr Lendvay and after several trips to the hospital, my son had a surgery when he was 18 month old. He had surgery once to bring both of his testicles down and we understand that it might required more than 1 surgery but after Dr. Lendvay performed the surgery, everything looks good and heals fast too. My son is almost 3 now and I would like to put the message out there that Dr Lendvay is the best doctor and he is very calm with kid. Thank you Dr Lendvay and the team.

After a full year of our son experiencing unbearable pain in his kidney and being misdiagnosed by our local hospital, we visited Dr. Lendvey at Children's Hospital. Within that first visit, he took a look at my son's x-rays and tests and was able to make a diagnosis (Hydronephrosis) and a plan. We came for the robotic assisted laproscopic surgery and intended on staying at the hospital for 2 to 3 days. The surgery was such a success, we were out of there within 24 hours and our son has never felt the pain again. Dr. Lendvey was great at explaining the situation and putting our minds at ease. We would definitely recommend him for anyone needed to undergo this type of surgery. He's a pro!

Dr. Lendvay has been exceptional with our son Samuel. Our son is 5 years old who had a Urachal Cyst Infection which creating severe pain during the urinating. After we met Dr. Lendvay, the mystery of pain started to be revealed through the ultrasound he ordered in children hospital. He fully understood the situation and he always has an answer to our questions. We are very lucky to have him as an Urology doctor for our Son Samuel. We liked Dr. Lendvay's confidence, Passion and Compassionate which gave us more confidence on his professional Robotic procedure. America is blessed country to have such a doctor like Dr. Lendvay who can bring healing to little sick children. He is the best person God gave to children hospital.

Dr. Lendvay has been amazing with our son Rowan. He's only six months old and has a lot of medical conditions. Dr. Lendvay always explains everything so that we fully understand and he always has an answer to our questions. we are very lucky to have him as a doctor :) My husband and I have been worried and unsure about a lot that has been going on with our son and Dr. Lendvay's confidence and his generous attitude always makes us more comfortable. We have to drive for two hours to get to this hospital but it is well worth it! we love how educated all of the Doctors here are and how nice they are to our son. We have had many visits and long stays at children's and we will have many stays ahead of us and we are so grateful that Rowan has such a great Doctor! Dr. Lendvay is awesome!

Thank God we found Dr. Lendvay, truly gifted talented surgeon! Dr. Lendvay operated on my daughter inguinal hernia on July 2013. He is very nice answer all our question, explain in detail and make us feel comfortable. God blessed you Dr. lendvay and the best fantastic team. keep up the good works

Dr Lendvay has been seeing my son since 2008 when my son was approximately 8 months old. My wife and I loved the way Dr. Lendvay explained things to us in a way we could understand at times drawing pictures for us. As our son got older Dr. Lendvay adjusted to our sons age and "got on his level" at times playing with him to try to keep him as calm as possible. Any parent that deals with a child with health problems knows how that can be. As stated before Dr. Lendvay is always available to answer questions and even personally make a phone call to ensure the parents are satisfied. Now our son is going to be 4 at the end of January and has had about 7-8 procedures done by Dr. Lendvay, most of them being a total sucess and for the ones that have proven to be more challenging Dr. Lendvay continues to look into ways to fix them. We are thankful to Dr. Lendvay for all he has done for our son and for what he continues to do, unfortunately we are unable to find anyone at home that will do the same. Thank you Dr. Lendvay.

Dr. Lendvay operated on my son in June of 2011. I would definitely recommend Dr. Lendvay to anyone that has a child being seen at Seattle Children's Hospital. He preformed a robotic operation on my son. He was always available to answer any questions that I had, and always had my sons best interest at heart. We live in Idaho and when I had questions he even took the time to call me on the phone to answer them personally. Most doctors don't do that anymore. I am very thankful to Dr. Lendvay and all of the wonderful staff at Seattle Children's Hospital. We have been truly blessed to have them.
