Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program

What to Expect

Clinic Visit

Learn what to expect and how to prepare for your child’s first Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program visit (PDF) (Spanish).

During your visit, many members of the care team will be able to see your child. This will help reduce the number of clinic visits you may have to schedule.

  • Preparing your child
    • The care team will need to examine your child’s chest, shoulder and arm. For children under 2, we will ask you to undress your child down to their diaper.
    • Bring a blanket so you can wrap your child between exams. It may be easier than putting their clothes on and off several times during the visit.
    • For children over 2, we suggest they wear clothing that exposes their shoulder and arm, like a tank top, to make the exams easier.
    • If your child wears a splint or a brace, please bring it along.

  • Waiting time during your visit
    • You can expect to have some waiting time between seeing team members. It can be helpful to bring items to ease the wait for your child.
    • If your child needs a splint to keep their shoulder and arm from moving, an may be able to make it for them on the same day of your visit. This means you may need to wait at the clinic while the splint is made.
  • Directions, parking and entering
    • Find your clinic’s location in our map and directions.
    • Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to allow time for registration.
