Children's Title: Medical Director, Seattle Children's Hospital NICU

Academic Title: Professor

"It is a great privilege and greater responsibility to be the medical director of the Seattle Children's NICU since 1992. We receive the most difficult and complex infants from Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho for treatment by some of the best medical and surgical specialists in the nation, and to be cared for by the best nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and physical/occupational therapists anywhere. My job is to keep us working as a team to deliver the best outcomes possible for our young patients and their families."

After 15 years of basic and clinical research in lung diseases of newborns, Dr. Jackson changed his major focus from research to neonatal medical direction, strategic planning, and business services. To improve his administrative skills, he completed the executive Masters in Health Administration at the University of Washington in 2007.

Dr. Jackson plans to continue his primary administrative activity as neonatal medical director at Seattle Children's Hospital, including quality improvement activities, and working with leaders in Perinatology at UW to build its program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and fetal diagnostic services. He is co-manager of the Children's Neonatology Value Stream process to continuously improve clinical outcomes and family-centered care.
