Training and Simulation
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
The Seattle Children's PALS Training Center is an American Heart Association (AHA)-designated PALS Training Center.
The Seattle Children’s PALS Training Center is an American Heart Association (AHA)–designated PALS Training Center. We follow the AHA Curricula for PALS Provider, PALS Renewal, HeartCode PALS Part 2 and PALS Provider for Physicians and Advanced Practitioners (adapted). Upon successful completion, participants are issued an electronic PALS Provider eCard effective for two years.
These official AHA PALS Courses train healthcare providers in the skills needed for assessment and management of infants and children with conditions of respiratory distress/failure, shock and cardiac rhythm disturbances, using the team approach. PALS certification is required for work in high-risk areas where advanced therapies are provided.
-
All courses assume proficient, high-quality BLS-HCP skills using current AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. For HeartCode PALS, the Part 1 online Certificate of Completion is required prior to attending the Part 2 in-class session.
-
The 2020 PALS Provider Manual (published October 2020) is required for preparation, during, and after the course. For HeartCode PALS, course fee includes electronic access to the manual for two years.
- Borrow: Check out a copy from your department library or the hospital library.
- Purchase hard copy or electronic version:

HeartCode is an appropriate alternative for experienced pediatric healthcare providers who are comfortable with computer simulation, and may have class-time limitations. As a first-time PALS course, it is a good option for experienced providers practicing PALS in their daily work. Part 1 provides online self-paced learning (average 4–8 hours), interactive case simulation and a written exam. In the half-day Part 2, participants practice and test team leader and team member skills using case scenarios. Completion of Part 1 is required for participation in Part 2.
Part 1 online key code is included in fee. If you already purchased a key code directly from https://shopcpr.heart.org/, you can register for Part 2 only for a discounted fee.
Information on computer technical requirements for Part 1 can be found at https://elearning.heart.org/static/faq.
Fees
- Seattle Children's staff (non-physicians): $200
- Seattle Children's residents/fellows: $200
- Physicians/dentists: $245
