  • Nadine Nielsen joined the Neurosurgery team at Seattle Children's Hospital in 1992. Previously she worked in Children's Intensive Care Unit for more than 10 years, serving as head nurse for a period of time.

    Nadine earned both her bachelor's degree in nursing and her master's degree from the University of Washington, completing the pediatric nurse practitioner program in 1992. She is certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

    Nadine has been an active part of the Neurosurgery team and is currently the department's lead nurse practitioner. She coauthored a chapter on hydrocephalus in Nursing Care of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Patient. This book's second edition is being released in March of 2013. Additionally, Nadine has been active in the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, has been the chairman of the Pediatric Special Focus Group and will receive the Mary Decker Mentorship award in 2013. She was also nominated for the mentorship award for the March of Dimes in 2012. She was past president of Washington State NAPNAP. She has done extensive speaking locally and nationally on pediatric neurosurgical topics. Nadine was also involved in the Stanley Stamm Summer Camp for more than 20 years and served on their board.

    Nadine is a native Seattleite, and enjoys cycling, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with her five grandchildren. She has cycled throughout the world.

      Nadine was our nurse when my daughter had her first shunt and subsequent revision in 1995-2003 time frame. We received so much care and information in our time there that it has guided our expectation of care in the past 20 years. So far, no one has ever given us as much care as Nadine has.
