On staff since November 2022

Academic Title: Clinical Professor, Pediatrics

"Our neonatal intensive care team cares for the very sickest newborns in our region. Our team strives to help families maintain their hopes and dreams as they face an incredibly difficult time in their lives. The opportunity to work with such talented, compassionate people and what we do for families is what keeps me coming back every day."

  • As Associate Division Head for Clinical Operations, Dr. Wallen coordinates the clinical schedule and the delivery of care at all of the NICUs staffed by the Division of Neonatology. An important part of this role is coordination of evidence-based guidelines for management of neonatal problems across all of our sites.

She works directly with the medical directors at the community sites to develop strong medical management and excellent care. She also actively participates in the development of clinical pathways at our academic NICUs. Dr. Wallen is medical liaison to the Seattle Children's Hospital Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program, works in regional Outreach, and works with Dr. Kendra Smith in medical direction of the Seattle Children's Hospital transport team. And most important, she has significant clinical responsibilities and a passion for teaching, continuing to learn through teaching.
