"When my mom was seven years old, her brother died of polio. He was a healthy kid at the time, and the polio vaccine was developed just a few months later. Although over half a century has passed, we still face many challenges to vaccinating children against vaccine preventable diseases. My goal is to partner with parents, providers, public health officials and others to better understand these challenges and to improve timely receipt of needed vaccines in order to prevent serious complications and even death from diseases like polio."

Clinical Interests

Dr. Hofstetter's research focuses on pediatric and adolescent vaccination, especially in high-risk populations. She has experience examining vaccination coverage, timeliness, and missed opportunities. She has worked on novel technology-based interventions aiming to improve vaccine uptake and reduce missed opportunities, including a recent text message vaccine reminder study targeting adolescents with chronic medical conditions. She also has a research interest in provider-parent vaccine communication and vaccine safety.
